Overarching Legislation
Australian State legislative requirements (State Government Acts, Regulations and Codes) must be considered and adhered to as the overarching legislation and rules whilst performing work on an electrical network whether High or Low Voltage.

Accredited Training
Whilst the ‘Qualifications’ and ‘Units of Competencies’ described by the Australian Qualifications Training Framework (AQTF) Training Packages are considered relevant and advantageous, it should be noted that these are formal qualifications under the Vocational Education Training (V.E.T) system that allow people to achieve nationally recognized accredited training.

This accredited training however is NOT required by Australian Federal or State legislation for the implementation and monitoring of isolation and access of electrical apparatus.

Work on Electrical Networks
Australian State Legislation does however require electrical work be performed or in some cases supervised by a licensed Electrical Worker i.e. Electrical Fitter and/or Mechanic (Electrician), Electrical Jointer, Electrical Lineworker etc.

Other Australian State Legislation (i.e. Workplace Health & Safety, Electrical Safety Legislation etc) also requires employers ensure workers who are required to perform, or help in performing, electrical work, are competent in rescue and resuscitation procedures in accordance with recognized procedures in the electrical industry i.e. CPR, Low Voltage Rescue, Pole Top Rescue, Steel Tower Rescue, EWP Rescue etc.

Industry Best Practice
These and other legislations require the ‘Person in Control’ of the electrical network (e.g. the owner of the electrical network or formally delegated organisation/person) and/or employers of workers who work on or around an electrical network, ensure all work on or around electrical apparatus is done so in an electrically safe manner and as per a ‘Safe System of Work’.

Your Solutions
Achieving legislative requirements and industry best practices can be done by

  • following detailed procedures developed as per industry best practice (e.g. the procedures described by Energy Networks Association of Australia Guidelines (ENA) , and
  • ensuring workers have been trained and deemed competent by the ‘Person in Control’ of the electrical network to perform the tasks they are called upon to perform

Breaking News

We recognize some of our customers desire accredited training as per AQTF requirements.

As such, we are currently researching, developing and associating ourselves with organisations so as to be able to achieve this.

Whilst undergoing this activity, we hope to be able to recognize the prior learning (RPL) of our previous customers to ensure they have minimal bridging training to achieve an accredited Unit of Competency or Qualification under the AQTF Training Package requirements.
